POSITION SUMMARY
Coordinates the deployment, installation and test and commissioning (T&C) of equipment or infrastructure within a datacenter or property necessary for operations or to support the tenant’s installation obligations pursuant to a lease or license agreement. This position will lead and organize deployment, installation and T&C activities for multiple customers within a single building or group of buildings and in cooperation with Design and Construction, DC Management, Sales and Customer Success.
REQUIREMENTS
Academic background: Bachelor’s degree (BE/BS) in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering or similar Tech College degree/diploma
Preferably 5 years or more of work experience in Data Center or related industry related experience
Business level of English and Japanese communication skills – especially requires excellent verbal and written communications in both languages
Able to comprehend, analyze, and interpret complex engineering documents.
Able to manage engineering project effectively.
Able to develop installation standards and project tracking/management documents.
Basic working knowledge of mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems supporting a critical DC environment.
Able to effectively respond, verbally or written, to sensitive issues, complex enquiries or complaints from the customers.
Able to make effective presentations and respond to questions from groups of internal managers, clients, customers and the general public.
Excellent customer service skills.
Able to track costs for all projects, using purchase orders and other tracking methods.
Able to analyze and solve problems involving several options with limited information.
Able to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form and to work independently.
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and openness to new ideas and procedures.
Demonstrate ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, mission critical facilities environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
<PRIMARY ROLE>
Manage the installation of equipment or infrastructure such as cabinets, racks, power/telecommunication cables, cable trays, ladder rack, power circuits, grounding and other telecom and datacenter related equipment to support Landlord’s installation obligations, datacenter and portfolio operations.
Provide expertise and oversight on all tenant fit-out construction projects for start-up and commissioning.
Ensure quality standards and client expectations are met per DLR standards and per lease or license obligations.
Produce customer work orders associated with customer deployments and installation costs.
Ensure that customer installation costs are kept within the projected budgets.
Organize and work with external suppliers to maintain necessary equipment stock levels needed to support customer installations.
Utilize the Company’s ticketing system, as necessary, to ensure that tickets are being dealt with in a timely and professional fashion and that the various departments are addressing tickets assigned to them.
Ensure Health & Safety requirements are met in the DLR area of responsibility.
Contribute to the disaster recovery and contingency planning efforts.
Technical Support for Data Center Managers’ operations for repair, major retrofit, engineering assessment, long-term capital planning, electricity forecast, MOP/SOP/EOP review, etc.
<LEASE ADMINISTRATION AND IMPLEMENTATION>
Understand all leases associated with datacenter and property and escalate engineering non-compliance with lease terms to correct departments.
Work with Operations team to resolve any customer concerns related to the leases or service level obligations (SLAs).
Monitor and solve customer service problems with the support of the operations team.
<FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT>
Participate in the annual budget, quarterly reforecast and monthly variance reporting process by identifying and explaining budget requirements and variances for construction projects.
Review invoices for work initiated or managed.
Recommend cost and efficiency improvements.
<VENDOR MANAGEMENT>
Manage, direct and coordinate the activities of internal or contracted personnel or third parties who are providing services or performing work for the deployment projects or the property.
Evaluate, assign and monitor the safe work responsibilities and capabilities of employees and contractors; ensure adherence to safety requirements and prescribed procedures.
Qualify vendors and implement the company’s procurement procedures including tendering projects, using RFPs, purchase orders and cost tracking templates.
Obtain and negotiate pricing for services in conjunction with the Operations team.
Track vendor performance against contracts and SLAs.
Track vendors’ documents: Insurance, NDA, Screening, Schedule, Quotation, Invoice. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
